We advise our clients, that include cutting-edge technology start-ups, charities, government bodies, FTSE 100 and Forbes 500 companies, on the legal and regulatory issues that arise when they develop, scale, protect, exploit and procure technology.

We work across a broad range of sectors from automobile and advertising and marketing to FMCG and financial services. A significant part of our work is advising clients on issues arising from the use of personal data.

Whilst we are a firm of solicitors registered with the Solicitors Regulatory Authority and predominantly provide legal advice, our lawyers are all experienced business consultants. Many have sat on the board or undertaken company secretary roles in private and public companies.

If you need legal advice involving technology, data, communications or content, we can help you.

We are technology and data law specialists, drawn from top international firms. Our single focus is understanding our client’s business to deliver exceptional service, wherever in the world they may be.

 Agile, lean & responsive

We run lean, efficient teams and use technology to deliver responsive and cost-effective legal services. Our systems have been designed to be adaptable to allow our lawyers to deliver services to our clients in the way that our clients want.

Unparalleled expertise

We understand technology and the tech sector. All of our lawyers have worked for global tech companies and a number have launched start-ups and worked for early stage companies. Our experience is hands-on and thoroughly tested.

Commercial & pragmatic

We are straight-talkers who will give you considered, insightful counsel. Our clients stay with us because we provide smart, practical, useful legal advice. We ensure that our fees reflect the value that we add to our clients’ businesses.

Our client relationships matter to us. We’ve designed our business model, infrastructure and culture to put our clients first; to ensure that you get the highest quality legal advice and support as quickly and efficiently as possible. We work hard to understand your business, technology, objectives and risks, so we can deliver results for you every time. Our approach seems to work. Our clients, whether they be company directors, civil servants, professionals or entrepreneurs, enjoy working with us and remain with us.

garfield_324x264Garfield Smith – Technology and Data Lawyers was founded by Garfield Smith, an internationally recognised technology law expert and former head of information technology and outsourcing in a top-10 international law firm.

In collaboration with our long term clients and with the assistance a small group of senior legal professionals, we have developed a bespoke technology infrastructure that allows us to deliver legal advice and services to our clients faster and more efficiently.

On instructing us you will be allocated a client director. They will be your single point of contact for all work. Your client director will rely on our large team of technology and data law consultant solicitors to prepare work for you. All of our solicitors qualified and worked at large international law firms in the City of London and each has over 10 years post qualification experience.
